What is the best way to shampoo a cars upholstery?

Hi, I have a faint ciggerette smell in my car, and would just like to give it the thourough cleaning that it deserves. I am wondering how exactly to shampoo the upholstery? I don't have any special shampoo, just hair shampoo, and I dont ahve any special tools (steam cleaner, etc...) So what would be the best way to do this? by the way, the car is not a leather interior, and the fabric color is grey. thanks! -GeorgeWhat is the best way to shampoo a cars upholstery?
go to walmart's or any place like autozone and get a can of tuff stuff spray foam carpet and upolstery cleaner and a stiff bristled brush and go at it, it's good stuff and will clean all your upolstery and carpet and smells real good, give it a try. What is the best way to shampoo a cars upholstery?
Take it to any car place and then ask if they can clean your carpets.
In order to do that, you will need to find a friend with a steam cleaner (Rug Doctor or Hoover Steam Vac, etc.). If not, most grocery stores or hardware stores will let you rent one. Get one with a ';wand'; hand-held thing, and you'll need to get the special shampoo made for those things, usually also for sale there.

Follow the manufacturer's instructions for shampooing the carpet and upholstery. Because it's a cigarette smell, you will also want to wash the headliner. If it's fabric you might be able to pull it off (gently) and just wash by hand with a mild detergent. If it's vinyl, use a soapy sponge, and it might take a few times to get rid of the smell.

Good luck!
